Green chemistry rendez-vous

The first edition of the "green chemistry rendez-vous" was taking place on December 15th 2023 at the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne and was jointly organized by the Cohort 4 Bioceb students and Dr Marie-Charlotte Belhomme.

This event gathered more than 60 participants: researchers and students with differents backgrounds: chemists, biochemists and biologists.

The seminar started by a breaking-ice activity organized by the Bioceb students in order to know a bit more about the audience and was followed by a brief introduction to green chemistry.

Then, Pr Caroline Rémond, the local coordinator of the Bioceb program at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, presented the Bioceb master highlighting the multi-disciplinary approach of this program.

The first part of the seminar was dedicated to Cohort 4 Bioceb students presentations and was moderated by two pairs of Bioceb students : Agathe Hellich & Raffi Shakhmuradian and Rangsimatiti Binda Saichompoo & Yanisse Bogado. All Bioceb students presented by pairs a recent publication on green chemistry dealing with mechanochemistry, catalysis, green solvent, CO2 capture and phytoremediation. Presentations was followed by fruitful discussions with the audience. Congratulations to all Bioceb students for their amazing presentations!

The jury, composed of Dr Sofiene Abdellaoui from the laboratory Fractionnation of Agro-Resources and Environment (FARE – INRA UMR A 614), Geoffroy Prevost from Accustica, Pr Sandrine Bouquillon and Dr Fabienne Grellepois from the Institute of Molecular chemistry of Reims (ICMR UMR 7312 CNRS) awarded the prize of the best presentation to Javeria Ibrahim and Luisa Tellez Olarte for their pitch on chemical upcycling. Congratulations!

During the second part of the seminar, Pr Anne Wadouachi from the University of Picardie Jules Verne delivered a great conference on how to perform reactions without solvent via mechanochemistry.

Thank to all participants for the fruitful discussions and see you next year for the second edition of the "green chemistry rendez-vous"!
